My career history:

  • Studied at Lancashire Polytechnic (which sadly rebranded as university of Central Lancashire) 1991 - 1995
  • Graduate with NHS Estates (my first project was building a helicopter landing pad at royal Preston hospital!)
  • Capital Project Control Manchester 1997 - 2001 predominantly involved in office refurbishment and fit out
  • Joined Colliers 2001, promoted Director Leeds 2008 and head of Manchester and Leeds building consultancy 2011
  • Saw the light and joined Paragon 2015 to head up the new Manchester office

My career highlight:

Co-opening the Paragon Manchester office in 2015 and growing a team from two of us to 20 in less than three years.

What keeps me motivated:

Building on our success. Being genuinely helpful to our clients, not just providing a service. Persuing excellence and continuous improvements in what we do and how we do it.

What I do differently:

Listen. Never assume. Take personal responsibility and be relentlessly proactive. Communicate and collaborate to get the best from teams. Offer pragmatic solutions when problem arise.

What keeps me busy at the weekend:

Married to Jo with three teenage children, Bryony, William and Imogen and Tilly (Jack Russell!). I love spending my spare time with them all and when time (and Jo) permits, playing golf and dabbling in a lifelong ambition to get properly fit via squash and cycling.

My favourite food:

All of it except raw onions!

My favourite eatery:

Lunch at Jamie's Italian and dinner at Blackhouse for red meat feast... not on the same day.

My favourite drink:

In order - gin and tonic plenty of fresh limes, overly chilled Sauvignon blanc, good full bodied red... not all in the same class except on my birthday. Or a drink called real ale exclusively available in the north of England.

My favourite travel destination:

Rural France, Northumberland coast and North Yorkshire Moors.

Not many people know this about me:

I used to be a canoe instructor in France... quite possibly the best job in the world.
